Reno Divorce – Naysayers and Yesmen Remixed and Remastered

Blast From the Past

About a year ago, I heard from Reno Divorce frontman Brent Loveday for the first time since 2010. He was reaching out to let me know that the 2001 debut Reno Divorce album, Naysayers and Yesmen, was being remixed and remastered for a special vinyl release on Wolverine Records. Would I be interested in contributing?

The 21st birthday of an album I’m still proud of to this day doesn’t occur all that often, and of course I said yes. From there, Brent asked me to write the liner notes for the album, telling the story of the album’s creation from my own perspective. I wrote a full 7 pages, submitted it, and then asked Brent which parts he wanted me to cut out to make it shorter. His response was that it was great as it was, and they were going to print the whole dang thing!

Brent also asked me if I had any pictures and the original album artwork layout files from the back in the day. Being both a physical and digital pack rat, I of course had the original files and submitted those as well as many photos that were not included in the original layout, some of them never seen before.

Meanwhile, the world famous Jason Livermore had been given the original ADAT tapes from 2001 and was remixing and remastering the album from the ground up at the legendary Blasting Room studios.

The finished product looks and sounds beautiful and it is truly humbling to think that people are still interested in this album that we recorded so long ago.

You’re Only Making It Worse

Earlier this month, it occurred to me that the second Reno Divorce album, You’re Only Making It Worse, turns 20 this summer as well. I don’t believe we have the original master tapes (hard drive) for that one, so I don’t foresee a remixed re-release, but I do plan on telling the story of the making of that album here in a future blog post.
